What should I check before swapping SOL to Bitcoin on an exchange
Before you swap SOL to Bitcoin on an exchanger, check the current exchange rate, the estimated network fees for both chains, and the minimum deposit amount. These three factors determine how much Bitcoin you will actually receive and whether the swap can proceed at all.

Status: waiting for your deposit
You send from your own wallet straight to the exchanger — nothing to connect, no account, and you stay on this page throughout. Rates are indicative until a swap is opened.
The swap is carried out by an independent exchanger and the deposit address above is theirs. pubtoken.xyz never holds, receives or controls your funds, has no key to that address, and earns a referral commission. Opening a swap sends your receiving address, IP, browser and timezone to the exchanger for their compliance checks; we store none of it. Check their terms, fees and country restrictions before sending anything.
Exchange rate and slippage
The rate displayed on the exchanger is a snapshot. It can change between the moment you confirm the swap and the moment your SOL deposit is confirmed on the Solana blockchain. Most exchangers lock the rate for a short window - often 10 to 30 minutes - but if network congestion delays your deposit, the rate may shift. Check whether the quoted rate is fixed or indicative. If it is indicative, the final rate will be set when the exchange receives your SOL. That can mean receiving less Bitcoin than you expected.
Slippage is the difference between the quoted rate and the executed rate. It tends to be larger during volatile market conditions or when the swap amount is large relative to the liquidity the exchanger holds. If you are swapping a significant amount, consider splitting it into smaller swaps or checking whether the exchanger offers a "best rate" guarantee. Many do not.
Network fees
The exchanger deducts network fees from both the Solana and Bitcoin sides of the swap. On the Solana side, you pay a fee to send your SOL to the deposit address. That fee is small - typically a fraction of a cent - and is deducted from your deposit. On the Bitcoin side, the exchanger pays a fee to send Bitcoin to your wallet. That fee is passed on to you, usually built into the quoted rate or added as a separate line item.
Check whether the exchanger shows the Bitcoin network fee before you confirm. Some hide it in the spread. If the fee is not visible, you cannot compare offers between different services. Bitcoin network fees vary with congestion. Swapping during a period of high Bitcoin demand - such as when many people are moving coins to or from exchanges - can eat into your received amount.
Minimum deposit and swap limits
Every exchanger sets a minimum amount of SOL you must send for the swap to be processed. Sending less than the minimum will either cause the swap to fail or leave your SOL stuck until you contact support. The minimum is typically listed on the swap page, but check it before you initiate. Some exchangers also have maximum limits per swap, often tied to their available liquidity.
If you are swapping a small amount, the minimum might be higher than you expect. That can be frustrating if you are testing the service. Conversely, swapping a very large amount might trigger a manual review or a longer processing time. The exchanger's terms should state these limits.
Deposit address and memo
When you start a swap, the exchanger provides a deposit address for SOL. That address is unique to your swap. Sending to the wrong address - or reusing an old one - will likely result in lost funds. Also check whether a memo or tag is required. Solana transactions do not use memos the way some other chains do, but if the exchanger uses a shared deposit address, they may assign a memo to identify your deposit. If they ask for one, include it exactly. Omitting it can delay or break the swap.
Time estimates
The swap duration depends on Solana confirmation speed and Bitcoin block time. Solana confirms transactions in seconds. Bitcoin takes ten minutes on average, sometimes longer. The exchanger may also batch outgoing Bitcoin transactions to save fees, which adds delay. Check the estimated time shown. If it says "up to 60 minutes," expect the high end. Swaps that involve Bitcoin are rarely instant.
What to do next
If the swap completes but you receive less Bitcoin than expected, read the sibling page "Why did my SOL swap arrive with less than the quoted amount." It explains common causes such as network fee changes and rate drift. That page is part of the same set about moving Solana-based assets between chains using an exchanger rather than an on-chain DEX. Understanding those details will help you decide whether to use the same service again or try a different one.
