Why did my SOL swap arrive with less than the quoted amount

The short answer: The amount you receive is almost always less than the quoted amount because the quoted figure is an estimate, not a guarantee. The final amount depends on network conditions, liquidity, and how the exchanger routes your order.

You send from your own wallet straight to the exchanger — nothing to connect, no account, and you stay on this page throughout. Rates are indicative until a swap is opened.

The swap is carried out by an independent exchanger and the deposit address above is theirs. pubtoken.xyz never holds, receives or controls your funds, has no key to that address, and earns a referral commission. Opening a swap sends your receiving address, IP, browser and timezone to the exchanger for their compliance checks; we store none of it. Check their terms, fees and country restrictions before sending anything.

When you initiate a swap using an exchanger rather than an on-chain DEX, the quoted amount is calculated at a specific moment. That quote reflects the exchange rate, the available liquidity in the route, and the expected network fees. By the time your transaction actually settles on the destination chain - Solana or another - several things can change.

Price slippage is the most common reason. The quote you saw was based on a snapshot of prices across the pools or order books the exchanger uses. Cryptocurrency prices move constantly. If the price of SOL or the asset you swapped moves against you between the quote and the settlement, you receive less. Many exchangers apply a slippage tolerance (often 0.5% to 1%) to protect you from extreme moves, but small price shifts still reduce the final amount.

Network fees are deducted from the swap, not added on top. The quoted amount typically includes the fee for the source chain transaction. But the exchanger also pays fees to move your funds across chains. Those cross-chain fees are often baked into the rate, not shown as a separate line. If the network is congested, the exchanger may need to pay a higher priority fee to get your transaction confirmed. That cost comes out of the swap, reducing what you receive.

Liquidity depth matters. The exchanger routes your order through available pools or liquidity providers. If the trade size is large relative to the liquidity at the quoted price, the exchanger may fill part of your order at a worse price. This is especially true for less common tokens. SOL itself is highly liquid, but the pair you swapped - SOL for something else - might not have deep pools on the route the exchanger uses.

The quote may have been stale. Some exchangers display a quote that is valid for a few seconds. If you hesitated, or if your wallet took time to sign and broadcast the transaction, the actual rate could be different. Exchangers that show a "locked" quote guarantee the rate for a short window, but many do not. If the rate is not locked, the final amount can vary.

Cross-chain finality adds delay. Swapping from another chain into Solana (or out of it) involves waiting for block confirmations on both sides. During that time, price changes accumulate. The exchanger might also use a bridging protocol that takes multiple steps - each step can introduce a small fee or slippage.

What you can check. Look at the transaction details on the Solana block explorer. Compare the amount you received with the quote you were shown. If the difference is larger than a few percent, it is worth checking whether the quote was locked, whether network fees were unusually high, or whether the swap size was too large for the available liquidity.

If this happens repeatedly, consider swapping smaller amounts, or using a different route. The hub page titled "Swapping Solana tokens without a DEX" covers how the exchanger selects routes and why the displayed quote is not always what you get. That page explains the mechanics in more detail, including how to interpret the fees and slippage settings available before you confirm a swap.

In short: no swap is free from slippage, fees, or liquidity constraints. The quoted amount is an estimate that accounts for ideal conditions. Real conditions almost always produce a slightly lower result.
